Commissioner Tim Tipton
- On Friday, September 10, 2021, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt appointed Tim Tipton as the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety after the retirement of former Commissioner, John Scully.
- Commissioner Tipton began his career in 1988 as a Gunsmith and Ammunition Reloader, serving the Department of Public Safety and Oklahoma Highway Patrol. In 1991, he transitioned to Oklahoma Highway Patrol and has held various positions as a Trooper, including Lead Instructor in the Defensive Tactics and Firearms Training Unit, Troop A, and Executive Security.
- Commissioner Tipton served as a field Supervisor in Troop A Oklahoma City and Troop Z Investigations Division before promoting to Captain over Troop K Perry. Before being appointed as Commissioner, his most recent assignment was Commander of the Emergency Services Unit, where he directed the OHP Tactical Team, Emergency Response Team, Mobile Field Force, and Emergency Medical Services Unit.
- During Commissioner Tipton’s 33 years of service, he has been recognized by numerous Federal and State courts as a Police Practices Subject Matter Expert and has recently received a Force Science Specialist Certification from the Force Science Institute.
